Sure, the 2015 campaign was a huge letdown for the Nationals, widely considered a World Series contender on opening day. But the Lerners remain well-liked by fans. As for their "side" job? They own the dominant family-owned commercial real estate development company in the D.C. region. Lerner has a portfolio of more than 20 million square feet, a legacy of successful projects such as Dulles Town Center and Tysons Corner Center, and a pipeline that includes Tysons II, a mixed-use project where EY, formerly Ernst & Young, has just signed on as an anchor tenant. Lerner's former Landover Mall is one of three sites in the running for a new FBI headquarters.
